Swallow Hill Farm

Closing Notice - Swallow Hill Farm Store

The purpose of this post is to notify our customers that Swallow Hill Farm will be discontinuing the operation of our on-farm and online stores at 5:30 PM on March 25, 2023. We will continue to sell beef by the quarter, half and whole-shares.

We have sincerely enjoyed serving our customers, many of whom we now consider good friends.

Why have we chosen this time to close our on-farm and online stores

  1. Most importantly, we both have family, including parents in their mid 80's, who we would like to spend more time with and also have two beautiful grandchildren we would like to visit more often.
  2. Increasing costs of our inputs (mostly hay, alfalfa, seeds, fertilizer, lime, chicken feed and fuel) continue to rise creating more pressure to increase prices which may further reduce sales.
  3. The increasing costs of our products, and likely the added costs of living overall, have reduced demand for our individual cuts of beef and pork.
  4. The demand for our naturally raised beef sold by the quarters and half (already sold out until June 2024) are still in higher demand than we are able to supply, therefore it is much more cost effective for us, and affordable for our customers, to sell all of our beef by the quarter and half.

Questions & Answers

Q: Will Swallow Hill Farm continue to sell honey?
A: No, due to the difficulties keeping honeybees alive we will no longer sell honey.

Q: Will Swallow Hill Farm sell pork products or pork by the half or whole.
A: No, we have been purchasing our pigs from another farm and will leave that service to them and to other pork producers.

Q: Will Avery’s Branch raw milk customers be able to continue picking up milk at Swallow Hill Farm?
A: Sorry, we will be discontinuing raw milk pick up services at Swallow Hill Farm. We have notified Avery’s Branch Farm of the need to establish another pick up location and will work with them to ensure a smooth transition.

Q: How can an order be placed for our beef-shares?
A: We currently offer beef shares first to our most recent (within 24 months) beef share customers. If any shares remain available after that offering, we will offer such beef shares to those on our mailing list.

Thank you for your past business, for your support and for your friendship. We wish you all the best for your continued health, happiness and success.

Please let me know if I can answer any questions or provide assistance as you make arrangements to purchase beef and pork by the individual cut from other family farms in the region. Although we will no longer sell our naturally raised farm products by the individual cuts, I will continue to be available by phone, email and text.
